The Centre for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI) has granted a partially repayable aid of up to €623,150.30 to Cargill, S.L.U. for the execution of the cooperative R&D project entitled “Bioprocessing and Thermomechanical Treatment of Local Fibrous Co-products to Increase Sustainability and Digestive Safety in Swine (3/3) (FIBRANIA)”, with IDI-20250360.
This aid is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF 2021–2027) of the European Union, with a gross equivalent subsidy of €224,974.76. The project has an execution period of 41 months, from August 2024 to December 2027, and is carried out by a consortium together with Vall Companys, S.A.U. and Innovabiotics, S.L.
The general objective of the project is to study the use of plant-based agri-food by-products rich in fiber in pig nutrition through bioprocessing and thermomechanical treatment, and to evaluate their effect on the productive and digestive parameters of the animals, as well as on emissions and carbon footprint.
The aim is to enhance the health and welfare of pig production while contributing to sustainability and the circular economy, associated with the revalorization of local agricultural by-products, harnessing their potential in the creation of product(s) with nutritional and technological functionality.
This objective will be achieved through the execution of two interrelated experimental activities:
- Research into the effect of bioprocessing and thermomechanical treatments on the nutritional composition and functional activity of fibrous solutions.
- In vivo study of new diets based on fibrous by-products in breeding sows, piglets, and fattening pigs.
